The Mexicans are coming and I’m sorry

povertyMy friend Kimmer turned me on to an article yesterday in the Washington Times about an Arizona rancher who’s ranch is on the Mexican border. In a nutshell, the rancher is being sued by 16 Mexicans who were trying to cross the border illegally, across his land. He held them at gun point with his dog by his side while he called the border patrol to come and arrest the illegals. In fact, he had done this so many times in the past eleven years that he has helped the border patrol arrest 12,000 illegals trying to gain access to this country by using his land as a gateway.

Now, the latest group of 16 Mexicans that he caught are suing him. You can read the whole story here.

I’ve thought deeply on this story since I read it. Just who do these people think they are? We stole this country fair and square. Our forefathers came over boat by boat and ship by ship to this land. They slaughtered scores of native Americans by introducing them to the business end of the firearms that they brought with them. They desecrated those heathen savages in every way possible, many times raping their women and killing their children until there was nothing left of them and leaving them nothing. Not even their pride. We stole this land fair and square right?

Our fore fathers brought slaves over from Africa. Ship by ship and boat by boat, cleared farm land, planted food and cotton with the aforementioned slave labor. They built this country on that stolen land and made it in to what it is today and that is something we can all be proud of right?

I am a proud American but sometimes, I really don’t feel so proud.

You can tell that I have mixed feelings about this. As a young man I thought I had seen poverty in America. I thought I knew what poverty was. I’d seen homeless people before. Not a lot, but I’d seen them. I didn’t know shit.

mexican-poverty1I went to Puerta Vallarta in about 1998 on a vacation. While I was there, I left the resort to go into town and check out some of the local shops and what not. I strayed a little farther past the outskirts of town than most Americans travel and that is where I saw true poverty. I saw true fear, hunger and despair in the eyes of innocent children. I saw an old woman in her 70s holding a baby in one hand and a tin cup begging for coins in the other while her daughter and grand daughter were trying to hawk up some business in the whorehouse a few doors down the street. These people’s best days don’t even come close to our worst. I sympathize and empathize with them. I’ve seen how they live and I can understand their desperation. I understand why they are willing to risk their lives to cross our border to make a few dollars an hour picking beans and chilies on our farms. I hold no animosity toward these people at all. They are just people, who are a lot worse off than we are, trying to survive.

Having said all that, do I feel that they deserve a free ticket to the US? I don’t know. I don’t know that I even deserve to be here. I don’t know that you deserve to be here either. If I steal your car like our great great grandparents stole this land, do I deserve to keep it just because I have a bigger gun? Is posession really nine tenths of the law?

These are tuff economic times, not only in this country, but world wide. Does anyone really think that a laid off GM worker is going to pick lima beans for three or four dollars an hour? Who’s jobs are they really taking or are they actually doing work that Americans are to fat and spoiled to do?

I have no answers on this. I feel sorry for the rancher whose land and belongings are being ravaged and vandalized by these people. I feel sorry for the Mexicans because I’ve seen the horror they are trying to escape. I feel sorry for the Americans who feel they deserve the luxury of $5 cups of Starbucks coffee just because their forefathers sodomized the native American culture. I feel sorry. I feel sorry that I’m somehow part of it and I don’t have the answers. I am sorry.

  1. There are certain inalienable rights that every human being, regardless of which nation they hail from, is entitled to. Suing in a civil court for 32Million dollars however is not one of them. The truth behind it all that no one really realizes is that Mexico is on the brink of collapse. Mexico City does not rule all of Mexico. My money on the 51st state is not Puerto Rico or the Democratic Republic of Iraq, but “North Mexico.”

  2. look the beggining is just bullsh*t no one has fought fair and square for this damn U.S and ur rite us americans are 2 fat and spoiled 2 get our butts up and do something so thats why we have the immigrants do it and then complain how mexicans are coming to “our” country while we have our butts in a seat eating a can of bean that some poor mexican immigrant picked in the hot, sunny fields while the government is planning on how 2 take out every mexican out of the U.S and yeah im from mexican decentnot completely though but anyways id still think its just not right,.
    🙁

  3. We can do these “shitty” jobs just fine if not better then Mexicans. That doesn’t mean we “cant”. We were doing them long before you were even here. With that said I feel sorry for the poverty in Mexico but that doesn’t mean we should allow floods of immigrants to here. There not smart enough and will slow down our society.

The United States of America is not a charitable organization! So if your having tough times it’s not our fault.

  4. I stumbled on to your blog researching poverty in Mexico. You took the words right out of my mouth. What I’ve always felt. I couldn’t have said it better.

I hope a lot more people stumble on to your blog.

  5. I came across your blog looking for details regarding the border to show other who do not understand the sacrisice of the poorer people. I have also been to Mexico and I have seen the poverty as well and if only these people who think they are better than others could live in the shoes for just a week at least and see how life can really be like. Half the people who talk bad about mexicans this or mexicans that , to be honest I don’t believe they would last not even a week in those conditions. Poverty is a a serious problem world wide, not just in Mexico. It’s sad to see and hear others who have no clue about life and how others suffer. I totally understand those who try to come here any way possible and respect their love for their families and will do anything possible to give their family a better future. Isn’t that what our founding fathers did? They went searching for a better horizon so why can’t other do the same without being critisized for it? People just need to understand that life is hard and the world was made for everyone and it should not be filled with so much hate towards others that are just a different color or nationality. We all have the same body functions, brains, skins, etc. So what is the problem and reason for so much hate?????? I really like this blog and more people need to see it to maybe open their eyes to the “Real” reality of the whole world and not just the spoiled life we do live!

  6. I wish there were more people like you Kelly.

  7. Eloquently said. The photo is heartbreaking and the post is thoughtful. Thank you.

  8. Let them eat cake.

  9. Excuse me but mexicans were in U.S. way before than anyone who pretends to be very american, despite the fact we all are americans as America is a continent not just a country, someone needs to teach better geography in “American” schools they obviously miss out on that “small” fact. U.S. is a country build by immigrants from all over the world, so next time someone feels very patriotic look back and think twice who is the immigrant in this land. Fu(*ing fat yankees sick of your pompous sh$*t go and cherish your Mc Donalds religion by eating a fatty burger while loads of people starve.

  10. THIS IS ALL BULLSH*T!! STOP TALKING BOUT MEXICANS,, DAMNN

  11. The immigration is due to the “abundance” the American society lives with. Simply share and the immigration will stop.

  12. You are a deep thinker, and a person with a conscience. However, you cannot feel guilt about what our forefathers did. They alone are responsible for their actions. You and I and all our contemporaries are responsible for now, and that’s what you’re trying to deal with. What do you (we) do with the situation at hand? Illegal is illegal is illegal, period, so we cannot condone people who enter this country illegally. We can, however – like you – understand why they do it, and so, while we cannot condone the act, neither can we condemn those carrying it out. There’s a difference! We need to work together to make systemic changes – here in the US so the illegals who are here (most for survival) can have a chance at a humane life, and in Mexico so the people of that country can have what is their right: adequate employment so they can have food, clothing, shelter, education and health care. It will take a long time, but through dialog and finding common ground among people in opposing camps, we can make a difference that will benefit all.

  13. fuck you, you probably voted for obama didnt you prick..

  14. Understand something folks! Mexicans are not illegal aliens or immigrants. You are in their front yard. They are not in your back yard. That part of their land was stolen from them through bloodshed. If that’s okay to steal it that way & call it yours, then stop complaining about the cartels getting stronger in power & taking over territories. Butchery for land & money is evil no matter who does it & how you choke it up. Not only was their land stolen, but they are & have been treated like garbage on it now. Shame! Shame! Shame! All because a bunch of greedy, immoral Europeans did want to share. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THOSE EUROPEANS WHO DO NOT SUPPORT & DO THIS KIND OF THING.

  15. @ This Guy – LOL. Love yer style but no, I hang to the right. Always have, Always will.

  16. I think that the U.S. is a land of immigrants. We should all love each other, because we’re all Americans, (btw America is not a continent. There is a NORTH America and a SOUTH America, and, depending on where you’re from, there could be a Central America, but no continent is called America.) and we all belong to this country. If other people want to come to our country, why can’t they? As long as we aren’t too overcrowded, and if they’re not contributing to crime, then I think they deserve a chance to have a better life. This is the land of opportunity. That’s why the Pilgrims came here. For freedom, to improve their lives. And there are also illegal Europeans in this country, and to say that they have more of a right to be here than illegals from other countries would be like saying that the colonists never defeated Britain. Why can’t we all just live in peace? Why can’t we just stop discriminating each other, and learn to accept our differences? I just hope that someday, people will learn to love each other.

  17. I completely agree with you, I couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s terrible what these people go through and people don’t really see that.

Just had to add, it doesn’t seem like mcccccc and Mexican hermossaa! even read your post. Illiterate assholes.

  18. I’ve living in Mexico for over 23 years and 3 in USA like legal resident, and I was poor, yes my parents came from “indigena Culture” and we worked hard, we all went to public schools and we got a career, I’m the only one living in USA, and sincerity I want to get back, I’m so poor here, Just my mind can’t understand how in this land people don’t own a house, but after 30 years

How I can eat like in my country is so cheap despite of poverty, If i want to eat like I was used to ( WE were poor) all our money is gone so fast, so I have to buy cans, those frozen foods and food that really I can’t enjoy bet better that starving

The poorest people in Mexico even if they don’t have a job the”ll get insurance health, Here I need to be more poor too get it, the culture where nobody is walking on the streets is shocking

I feel here more poor that never will imagine to have, but i have a career and If my American husband again want to live in Mexico ( how he did) we’ll get back

most of Mexican people whom live here, came from Indigens culture, most of them they didn’t want to go to school or either it was long away from their houses, or they had to work to help in their family’s farms

Now those farms are alone, those beautiful towns too, and their children are getting good education in USA, they sacrifice their freedom ( because you won’t find it in a country even in this times are racists) , their beautiful culture, they don’t want to get back and fear to start a new life

The money they send to their families helps a lot, because their old parents can’t work

I love Mexico, I hate the economic system where The rich get all and the poor each time get less

  19. Well, i don’t know why everyone is soo racist.( thanks to the people who where not! love you!!) If us Mexicans came here to have a better life why wont people accept it. We can all live peacefully in this country without no need to fight. Also if all some Americans are soo racist with Mexicans coming to this country, someone tell me why Mexicans let “Americans” in their country?! There is no need to fight for a country if everyone can live in it, and how much yall want to bet that Americans even treat their dogs better than us Mexicans!! I just want people to respect us and we will all respect you!! But not all Mexicans are the same, not all of us are bad, or stuff like that, those things are just stereo types. I love everyone equally and what do you think, I’M MEXICAN/AMERICAN AND PROUD!

  20. This is super sad, and I hope things get better for people like this.

  21. I ust mention how unfair Amrica really is. We accept god knows how many immigrants from China, Germany, and Ireland, BUT, we can’t even let a couple of mexicans over a simple line. Wat is wrong with having a 51st state? We can solve the alien problem, and get resources from Mexico. We Americans are idiots.

  22. fuck yuh yuh stupid bitch!.the u.s.a wouldnt beh shit without us mexicans!.yuh fuken fucker!.we fuken work hard everyday toh win money FAIR ND SQUARE!.sO how dah fuk is dat bad!.goh fuk yuhr fuken mom yuh fukin piece of shit lookin hoe!.BITCH!

  23. Very nice Rosa. You represent your people well.

  24. MEXICAN POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. No about many of you have your own ideas on detential concerns, I am here to tell you I used to be a mexican hating scrump when I was about 17. I am now a full time worker with no family and lots of time on my hands to study. I have full understanding on education—-> philisophical impert ideas, if you need to ask me questions my email is ( catzczu16@yahoo.com) Alot of you are lucky for getting in yes, to fight for what is now yours. Congratulaions. Now I believe the goverment is going to try and completely cut off alot of the immigration and theres not alot of things that can be changed right now, other than th fact that you can vote and petition. Hail you can do all of this ,but The only system I find fit that courts will see through is that “If we Rebuild Mexico” give them a sustainable country. Then you wont have to worry about people tryiong to thrive off your country. yes you should feel sorry for these people. I recommend these steps 1. petion to get pople to see that this is wrong, 2. Get your friends interacted with the internet and this kind of politacal change. 3. vote like hell to recieve a new country for yourselves there are costs ,but as the future you need to reap the rewards for your children and your childrens children. I believe the wall will not be needed as soon as your country has alot of errstoration applied to it. I also believe if you hold all of these words on this ntire blog true. You will find that freedom and racism is going to have to end. The idea of we are “free” is totally ostent to all people who care for a better world. A world where many decide how they want it to be.

  27. Catz wennersten i understand but mexico is not just poverty its full of corruption and those people only care for themselves not the rest so i find it impossible for it to get better for anyone

  28. Mexico could be very prosperous for its People, if they could get a Democracy going! But you see, We don’t want Mexico’s current system imported here with all you coming in. The World has had Borders since the Tower of Babel, and they work for a reason!

  29. Here is a problem we will all live with it for ever, history can never be change. I live now in Europe in Belgium to be exact, here they have three official languages, French, Dutch, German. And because of the way this country was formed or founded this people will never be able to agree with each other or worse than that they are not able to live with each other at all. The USA is not really the only one with that type of phenomenon, French people in the past always thought they were better than anybody else in Europe. The funny part about all this is also that despite now being the EU/European Union, and despite this countries now shearing a common economy they still hate each other for they think they all are different. they still fight they still discriminate each other, so no one else from around the whole world actually can expect any better here.

if I, being legal here speaking just about four languages can not even find a decent job or a way of life that I could say is much well balanced… in other words, if this people being all together Europeans and specially from the EU and supposedly having the same privileges and cant really get along with each other despite all that? then forget about one day those European descendants being able to ever accomplish something like that.

Because like here in Europe, there in the whole America, is no different than here. There is a small elite that want us to always keep on playing this little war games, believe me is all over the world, just check out Africa and see how this Europeans where able to create the apartheid and they were able to separate and to destroy year and year of culture. Still till this day is no different, they keep doing it. Just look around, soon there will be no place in this world for a single human to live in peace. Bt can we do anything about it? ask your self.

  30. @Ron
    – I was blown away by this, the way you wrote this was really phenomenal . You couldn’t have put this in better words. Being Mexican is also hard. We do not want to come here Illegally, I don’t think we want to come here at all. Risking their life’s and their families is a risk they have to take, to find a better life. The American government only allows those in Mexico who are wealthy to get a visa, but not those who are desperate for an opportunity to keep living. I haven’t been in this circumstances, but as a Mexican I know a lot about this. I visit Mexico often and Mexico is beautiful! The people there are too. The amount of respect and eagerness to succeed is one that no one in this country has. Unfortunately people don’t have much to work with in Mexico. Corruption is so bad because the government is corrupt itself. If you are rich you have the power and if you are poor , it is really, really hard to succeed because everything, even the public help , involves money. Not all the kids get education. There is so much that could be added in to this, but I want to make a point clear. It is really unfair to deny humans the entry to a part of the world. It’s really bold to say that Americans will do the jobs this hard workers do for half the amount they would make. The working conditions are terrible for them, working 11 hours a day without a lunch brake , just 10 to 5 mins to eat. Most Americans say a lot of insulting things to immigrants making them feel like they are making a crime trying to survive, its really sad what humanity has come to; being selfish and ignorant . This problem is not only here, but all over the world thinking that one is better than the other, therefore, having more benefits in life. If only all you people who became aggravated and insultant ,like all the other people in the world do, would educate yourself before saying something, there could be a solution to a problem like this.

  31. I was so refreshed by your blog, I find myself as a lone soldier in half of my life as I am an American married to a Mexican. I also lived in Mexico for 2 years when my ex-husband was deported and I experienced the poverty first hand. This is another side of immigration that we choose to sweep under the rug, the american citizens that also endure suffering and sacrifice when a loved one is deported. I eventually sold everything I owned and brought my children back home to the US with the help of the poor Mexican citizens. Not one American would help me by buying one thing from me, and we were in a tourist area. My children and I would walk on the beach carrying collectibles all day asking for people to buy the collectibles so that we could return home, and it was the impoverished Mexicans that ended up helping us. I eventually left my husband and moved back to the United States. I met another Mexican man that I have been married to for 12 years and I have seen his struggles and sacrifices. I chose to marry my husband because of his strong family values and it is sad that he is unable to see his family because of his immigration status. I have never met such a hard worker in my life and it upsets me to no end when people talk about “illegals” draining our system of resources and public benefits. DO these people see the sacrifices and suffering that immigrants endure on a daily basis, do they educate themselves on what real poverty is and how difficult it is to come to this country legally? We make it almost impossible for a poor Mexican citizen to come here legally because they have to prove that they have something (property, money, a business) to return to or they cannot get a passport or visa. We have such an abundance of everything here that we are downright wasteful. How could I as a parent watch my child starve and not do anything about it when right across the border Americans are throwing tons of food in the garbage everyday? When I lived in Mexico I would wake up crying every morning because I had no food or water to give my children, at least 50% of the time I could not afford to send my children to school because parents have to pay not only for transportation, lunch, school supplies and books, but also drinking water, air conditioning and any special celebrations at school. How sad that school in Mexico is just a right and here it is an obligation. I can tell you with 100% certainty that if I was in a situation where my children were starving I would break the law to cross the border without hesitation!! Do you know the sacrifice these people are making, leaving there families behind and risking possible death crossing the border? We need to find a humane solution for immigration reform. How is it that we send aid to nations across the ocean everyday, yet we turn our backs on our neighbors and we are actually killing them by putting up walls everywhere but the deadliest deserts.
